Recovery of gold from wastewater using nanoscale zero-valent iron

Ia large-scale application of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) to recover the trace gold from industrial wastewater. Specifically, over 5,000 grams of gold was recovered from ~120,000 m 3 wastewater using 54,000 kg nZVI in a 12-month period. This full-scale application recovers nearly ~5 kilograms of gold and 11 000 kilograms of copper from wastewater annually, together with a number of other toxic but valuable elements, which are all returned to the smelter for extraction.
